Tissington Trail and The Sycamore Inn, Parwich

Set off on this circular loop from Tissington village, one of the most beautiful villages in the Peak District, or the car park near the trailhead. Famous for its well-dressing tradition, Tissington is lined with picturesque streets and charming stone cottages that are a lovely sight to behold as you begin your hike.

Head towards the main village, heading south from Tissington Hall, crossing the fields and joining the Tissington Trail, a popular cycling path and hiking trail that connects Parsey Hay to Ashbourne. It follows the path of the old Buxton to Ashbourne railway line, which was originally opened in 1899 and closed in 1967. It’s a well-maintained route, making it easy to walk, with a mostly flat and wide path.

As you head north along the trail, you’ll enjoy lovely views of the surrounding Derbyshire Dales countryside, with rolling hills, meadows and the occasional woodland. The trail then curves around Wibben Hill and under a road where you’ll take the path that branches off. Follow the lane, cross the railway path and continue across the fields towards Parwich where you can stop for lunch or dinner at The Sycamore Inn before carrying on with your return journey to Tissington.

Back in the village, you could take some time to explore the winding streets or stop at Herbert’s Fine English Tea Rooms for a quick refreshment.
