Ullswater and Inn on the Lake, Glenridding

This trail takes you through one of the largest and most scenic hill farms in the Lake District, offering a unique opportunity to explore rural life and some stunning landscapes. As you wind your way along a mix of gravel roads and rougher footpaths, you’ll pass historic farm buildings that stand as a testament to the area’s agricultural heritage.

Along the way, you’ll cross the peaceful Glencoyne Beck, a tranquil stream that flows through the Glencoyne Valley. The trail also provides stunning panoramic views over Ullswater, the second-largest lake in the Lake District National Park and one of the most picturesque lakes in the region. It stretches for about 7.5 miles and is set amid some of the area’s most striking landscapes, including towering mountains like Helvellyn, Blencathra and Place Fell.

As you continue along the trail, the landscape changes and the combination of rugged footpaths, tranquil becks and unforgettable views makes this a rewarding route for adventurers wanting to discover the quieter, less-explored areas of the Lake District.

There are several great pubs in the nearby Glenridding, including the Inn on the Lake, which offers a delicious assortment of homemade meals.
