Ladybower Reservoir and the Yorkshire Bridge Inn, Bamford

This circular walk begins in Bamford, a village nestled in the Hope Valley. You’ll pass by picturesque stone cottages and a village green, giving you an authentic taste of traditional Peak District life. From here, head towards Ladybower Reservoir, constructed in the mid-20th century. Beneath its tranquil waters lie the submerged villages of Derwent and Ashopton, which were flooded during the reservoir’s creation.

Crossing the historic Yorkshire Bridge, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the reservoir and its cascading spillways, particularly when water levels are high. The trail offers a varied landscape, including peaceful waterside paths, woodland trails, and stretches of open countryside, making it an ideal choice for outdoor enthusiasts of all abilities.

Along the way, you’ll have the chance to spot a variety of wildlife, including waterfowl like ducks and swans, as well as woodland creatures such as squirrels, deer, and numerous bird species. If you’re lucky, you might even spot foxes or red grouse in the moorland areas.

The final leg of the walk loops back toward Bamford, offering more views of the Hope Valley and an opportunity to stop at the Yorkshire Bridge Inn, where you can refuel with some tasty food and a well-deserved drink.
