Stanage Edge and The Scotsman’s Pack Country Inn, Hathersage

This circular trail is one of the most scenic hikes in the Peak District, starting in the pretty village of Hathersage. If you’ve parked at the National Trust car park, you’ll find yourself just a short distance from the village centre, where you can explore the quaint streets or stop at The Bird Cafe or Colemans Deli for a quick coffee before starting your walk. 

Start the route by heading towards Burbage Bridge and following the signs for Stanage Edge. The initial section of the hike follows a well-maintained trail through grassy fields and light woodland. As you ascend, the route leads you to the top of Stanage Edge, a stunning gritstone escarpment with breathtaking panoramic views over the surrounding valleys, moorlands and the Hope Valley. 

The trail continues along the edge and after reaching the highest point of Stanage Edge, the route descends gently, offering views of the rolling countryside below. Pass through open moorland and fields, making your way toward the village of Hathersage. 

As you approach, you’ll begin to see familiar landmarks and soon enough, you’ll arrive at The Scotsman’s Pack, a traditional pub that has been serving visitors for centuries. where you can stop at The Scotsman’s Pack for a bite to eat or drink. On chilly days, warm up by the log fire indoors, and during warmer months, enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside from the outdoor seating area.
